1. Do Electric Cars Need Oil?

Do electric cars need oil? Not if it runs solely on electricity. This is because it does not have a traditional internal gasoline combustion engine. Oil is not a necessity for EVs since oil is designed to keep an engine lubricated.

2. Do Electric Cars Have Horsepower?

Of course! EVs still have horsepower but sometimes their power is measured as “KW” which is just a different measurement of power.

3. Do Electric Cars Have a Transmission?

They do have a transmission but they’re not equipped with multiple speeds such as 6-speed or 8-speed transmission. Regardless of the RPM, electric motors still produce the same amount of torque. Torque does not need to be generated through revving, EVs produce torque instantaneously. Cranston drivers no longer have to worry about changing gears since an EV transmission is usually a single-speed transmission.

4. Do Electric Cars Have Alternators?

No, neither hybrids nor EVs have alternators, but they do have a DC-to-DC converter. This recharges the 12-volt battery using power from the battery pack. 

5. Do Electric Cars Have Catalytic Converters?

Catalytic converters are not necessary in electric cars. 

6. Do Electric Cars Have Exhaust Systems? 

No, electric cars do not have exhaust pipes which means they do not produce exhaust gas.

7. Do Electric Cars Have Heaters/Do Electric Cars Have Air Conditioning? 

Yes, EVs still have heat and air conditioning systems! They rely on electricity from their batteries to run the heating and cooling system.

8. Do Electric Cars Last Longer Than Gas Cars? 

Electric vehicles can last longer with fewer repairs compared to gas-powered cars. However, gas-powered cars can still travel from East Greenwich to North Kingstown and back on a single fill-up and easily find parts when service repairs are needed.
