What’s New for the 2026 BMW 5 Series?
In 2024, BMW introduced the eighth generation of the 5 Series sedan. This premium, midsize car benefited from significant updates at that time. Going into the 2026 model year, BMW has made a few additional updates for drivers to enjoy.
The 2026 550e, which is a plug-in hybrid sedan, comes with an updated charger. The previous charging rate of 7.5 kW is boosted to 11 kW. This trim level generates 483 horsepower and travels 33 miles on all-electric power before dipping into the fuel. The gas-powered engines are unchanged in 2026. The 530i trims feature a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 255 horsepower. The 540i is outfitted with a 375-horsepower, turbo 3.0-liter, six-cylinder system.
While the exterior style of the 2026 5 Series is unchanged, BMW has added Frozen Portimao Blue Metallic to the paint color options. The unrivaled design of the 5 Series boasts a sleek profile with a sloping, well-defined hood and a strongly curved roof. The sides have a sophisticated quality with smoothly contoured surfaces. At the front, the rounded nose features a short, wide grille in BMW’s recognized kidney-shaped design. This grille tapers outward for distinction. The headlights add a sporty touch with a pair of vertical LED bars centrally placed. Some of the trims are available with an illuminated grille and 19-inch wheels.
All 2026 5 Series trim levels now come with a flat tire repair kit. In addition to this update, taupe and dark violet leather upholstery colors are now available. The features that carry forward from the 2025 model year include a Harman Kardon sound system, a wireless charging pad, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 14.9-inch infotainment system screen, connected services, a navigation system, heated seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, lane keeping, remote engine start and numerous others.
